And remember, there was no Dead Man’s Switch, therefore no “secret code.” Pope Benedict was a weak man with a long, consistent history of quitting, and trying to quit. Don’t make him into a fake hero – what he did was absolutely appalling. He fled for fear of the wolves. In fact, it probably makes him the worst Pope in the near 2000 year history of the Church. What he did gave the Antichurch two consecutive Antipopes, and all of the damage that they have wrought and continue to wreak is squarely at the feet of Pope Benedict and his attempted, failed partial abdication. Lord Jesus, send us virile men with the wisdom, strength and courage to publicly acknowledge this reality, and the authority to fix it.—AB
