I’m so disconnected from new “movies” that I had no idea this film even existed, and it was released in ARSH 2018. I saw it Monday night, and I recommend it. Jim Caviezel is St. Luke, and does a great job. I can’t imagine Caviezel being associated with any Biblical film that wasn’t of high quality. The cinematography is gorgeous, in the same style as The Passion of the Christ. For anyone who has made pilgrimage to Rome, and especially to Tre Fontane where St. Paul was executed, this film hits especially hard. This movie is NOT for youngsters, as the brutality of first-century Rome is depicted, and could give children nightmares. Anything that reminds us all of how easy we have it, how soft we are as a civilization, and how unwilling to suffer we all are is a good thing. And we wonder why the mess in the Vatican isn’t resolved. It’s simple: because no one is willing suffer. No one is willing to sacrifice. At least… not yet. People still prioritize “feeling good” over The Truth.
Saints Aquila and Priscilla, St. Luke, and St. Paul, pray for us, for Rome, for the Petrine See, and for the Holy Catholic Church, outside of which there is no salvation.
Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on us.
